The world Jonas lives in may seem perfect, but the world is more than meets the eye. In the beginning of the book you may not realize how much is missing from his world, but as the book progresses you find out more and more things his world doesn't have. Some things that are necessary in our world do not exist in his world. These things are cars, TV's, war, color, and love. Some of these things like war, are great things they don't have, but in order to not have war our world would have to have no difference. So, I think when trying to make the world Jonas lives in better, they actually made it a lot worse. I think Jonas starts realizing this when he receives memories from the Giver. He realizes what he is missing out on and what their community could be like. Personally, I would not want to live in Jonas' world so I wouldn't give up anything to love where lives. I would rather live in a world with love, color, and difference. I think Jonas did the right thing by leaving his community to find Elsewhere. I also think once Jonas realized what he was missing he could never stop seeing everything he could have. So, I think that our worlds are very different, but if I lived in Jonas' world I would want to leave.

Music is an extremely big part of my life and I don’t know what I would do without it. Everyday I hear music and without it my life would be very different. One pace I hear music is on the radio and I listen to it whenever I’m in the car if I feel bored. I feel like if there was no music life would be very drab. Another thing I do everyday that involves music is dance and theater. You need music to dance most styles and music also makes dance more interesting. In theater you need music to sing to and music in he back of scenes. Music sets the mood for many activities. Personally, I like all different kinds of music and it really depends on what I feel like listening to that day. I think that Jonas’ community doesn’t have music because it is very diverse. Diversity means that everyone will not be the same. Music would break the “sameness” in the community that they have had for hundreds of years. Even though Jonas’ community doesn’t have music, don't know if I could live in a community like his.
In Jonas's world many hardships such as pain, war, and suffering have been eliminated. I think if this happened it would be mainly a negative thing. Of course not having pain, suffering, and war would be a good thing, but it is not very realistic and it would come with costs. First of all to eliminate war would mean stopping people from having strong opinions. Also, if we eliminated suffering we would have to get rid of mainly all emotions. In order to suffer, you need to know what it is like to be happy first. Finally, it is just impossible to eliminate pain whether it be emotional or physically. People are always experiencing pain and in order for that not to be true we would all have to be perfect people. Although in Jonas' community this is how it is. Not everyone knows what love or some emotions mean. They haven't experienced pain because they haven't experienced true joy... So really there is no way to eliminate these issues and if we eliminated some of them we would have to give up things in return.
I believe that the way Lois Lowry tells the story is very effective in point of view. Lois Lowry chooses to tell the story in the 3rd point of view which means it has a anonymous author. For this question it asked if the story would be different if Jonas were telling it in his own words and personally, I think it would be. First of all, the author explains the scenery and people better then Jonas would have. Since Jonas is a 12 year old boy there would probably be important bits of information he would leave out where as the author explains everything. I also think that if Jonas were telling the story it would be much more emotional. There would be a lot more confusion, pain, and feelings. I also think the story would be different IF the narrator knew MORE then everyone else in the community. I think that they book would be a lot less interesting and would not contain that sense of mystery that readers love. I feel like the narrator would ave given away more details in the beginning and made the book less thrilling, So, I really enjoy reading the book the way it is and I wouldn't want the author to change the narrator.
In The Giver by Lois Lowry each of the 12's has a story told about them as a child when receiving their jobs from the Elders. First of all, if I was a 12, the job I would probably get was something to do with public speaking or the arts. So a story that pertains to public speaking or the arts is my first play. I am almost positive this is the story they would tell about me. My first play was had a big impact on my life for many reasons that will contribute to what I want to do when I grow up. The first reason is because I found what I love to do. Being onstage is my favorite thing and I love entertaining people and making everyone happy. My first show also had a big effect on my confidence. Before doing shows I was so much more shy, but now I am not afraid to be in front of people or talk in large groups. This also the reason why I love public speaking. I love finding ways to fill people with knowledge and make sure they are having fun at the same time. A job in public speaking would be a great option for me if I was a 12. So, this is why the Elders would probably tell the story of my first play at the ceremony. It greatly impacted my life for the better.
In The Giver all the children in the book have something to look forward to on their birthdays each year. For example at age 8 you get to start community service, at age 9 you get a bike, and at age 12 you get your job. In my life I have gotten many wonderful birthday gifts, but they gift I looked forward to the most was my phone. I had been waiting for a phone since I was a little girl. For example, when I was 10 a got an iPod so I was ready for my real phone the year I turned 11. Although the phone was my most looked forward to gift there were many things over the years that I got to that were different and exciting. When I was 9 I was tall enough to go on fun rollercoasters, when I was 7 I was old enough for my first play, and when I turned 13 I was ready to start thinking about high school. So although my phone was my most looked forward to gift I have had gained many special privileges as I have gotten older.
In The Giver there are many different things about our world and their community, but something that really stuck out to me, something they didn't have, was real families. In the book it mentions multiple times how babies are assigned to families and they will never meet their real birthmothers. I think this is very interesting because I still don't understand why they would do this. One theory I have is that they want every family to be perfect. They want to be in control of the children's names and age. Another thing that is different about the families is that each family unit is required to have two children. This is also probably because they want no difference in their perfect town. The final difference is that the husband and wife are assigned to each other. I think this is also very weird because in our world people pick who they want to love. The community might do this so no family will get a divorce and disrupt the town's unity. So overall I think that this town has assigned families so they can keep track and be in control of everyone. They want everything to be exactly perfect.
In the book THE GIVER by Lois Lowry the place they are living in is very different from the modern world. This story starts out in a very interesting way where the main character, Jonas, describes how planes are not allowed to fly over their community. The book also describes how families must say their feelings about the day every night, there are loudspeakers in the street, and it also uses interesting words. You can tell by the examples they give in the book that the characters are living in a very standardized community. It is very strange to see how the families and schools are different in the world they are living in. I am looking forward to reading more of the book to understand in depth what these rituals and words mean.
In the book THE GIVER written by Lois Lowry the characters live in a world where their lives are planned out for them already. In a few ways I believe this could be a positive thing, but for many other reasons I believe this would be a negative change from our life today. A reason why having your life planned out for you might be a good thing is because you would never feel stressed. You wouldn't be pressured to do well in everything if you already knew that whatever happened you would still end up the same way. Also you might not get nervous about not doing something right if you already new what would be the outcome of your life in the end. Although there are many things that are negative about having your life planned out for one. For one thing, you wouldn't have the freedom to decide what you like to do and this might cause you unhappiness if the future that was planned out for you wasn't something you enjoyed. Not to mention having your future planned out for you would cause mot people not to work to the best of their abilities because they would know that even if they weren't trying hard, they would still end up in the same place. That might mean that there would ever be any progress in the world and nothing would ever improve. So, as you know, it may be great to not be stressed out a lot of the time, but it may also be a terrible situation for many,
